Pedestrian

Out for some beersArtwork by Gene McCormick
the college gal walking

across Delaware Avenue
stops half-way, fooling

with her friend's hair,
laughing loud, then --

takes one step back
into moving traffic:

shoulder punching
my side-view mirror.

And soon as she's aware
I'm making her

late to the Elbo Room,
yells, you fuckin idiot --

over-forty woman
still sober at 8pm

Thursday, spring, early
start to her weekend. So

she runs off, mocking
her injury, any harm done.
