Sarah Carleton
Transport
We unfold like pop-up books
—shoes kicked off, Kindles removed, knapsacks lifted,
coats tossed, purses unzipped—and
let all that metal and leather, still warm from our bodies,
travel in trays while we walk through the archto emerge on the other side,
where we’re patted down and sent
to a bench to regroup.
We pocket phones and thread belts in silence
like embarrassed lovers.
