decided to suffer

it’s the moment you realize that happy endings
only exist in the imagination

the love of your life doesn’t want to be with you

even the broken souls have decided to suffer
than take the chance

and you’re supposed to wake up each morning
and attack the world with such vigor for life

all the while the shotgun in the corner rests comfortably,
knowing one day you will break down and need the
only help that will rid you of this disease

it’s that pain in your soul where you know they won’t
even bother to talk about you when you’re gone

ashes to ashes, dust to dust, drop the bag in the trash
just like where everything else ends up

a life squandered, riddled with potential

you’d think even the darkest star would give
a little light
