the bleakest future

the woman of my dreams
told me she would rather
be alone

that these miles between
us are there for a reason

yet another day
i’m defeated

slipping into the void
of the bleakest future
i can imagine

they always told me
to prepare for the worst

they never told me what
happens when the worst
your imagination can
conjure up

is nothing close to the
hell reality spits into
your face

pretend to be sophisticated

i break out the bottles Artwork by Gene McCormick
of wine when i want
to pretend to be
sophisticated

the other days its
whatever cheap
liquor is nearby

i’m not a picky
person

never had the
money to be
so
