Slow Moving Beasts

Once again here I sit
at a small round table
my back pressed against a wooden wall
a Starbucks filled with nomadic dreamers
& half-crazed sales professionals
rushing to the sunrise of slash & burn

i pause to watch a man walk by
his jeans tight, his ass round
i watch him walk by
he offers a smile

it takes only an instant to know
all animals wait by the river to kill
slow moving beasts
