Laura Sheahen
Salem
my sister has married my one love
so I shall become a witch:pull the darkness out of the wheat seeds
pull the shadows out of the treesdrop kernels into cold earth
sow discord sow rage
see what growsburn the brambles
from the fire I will pull
smokeless flame
shape it into a man
foreign and speechlessunlike us he can fly
in white garments
his eyes are smokeblack
he harvests the darknesssister
sister
marry this.
