Salem

my sister has married my one love
so I shall become a witch:Artwork by Gene McCormick

pull the darkness out of the wheat seeds
pull the shadows out of the trees

drop kernels into cold earth
sow discord   sow rage
see what grows

burn the brambles

from the fire I will pull
smokeless flame
shape it into a man
foreign and speechless

unlike us he can fly
in white garments
his eyes are smokeblack
he harvests the darkness

sister
sister
marry this.
