Tony Pena
Beating the block
A once in a blue
moon poem unfurling
with a lucky streak
of words like unbeatable
combinations pulled
from a deck of cards
blessed by Saint Jude
the night he won
the Brooklyn Bridge
in a game of poker
after which he drove
a cherry red mustang
over the Brooklyn bound
span heading east of Eden
with a golden hearted whore
riding shotgun and a dog
eared bible wearing tire
tracks in the rear view mirror.
Tony Pena was selected as 2017-2018 Poet Laureate for the city of Beacon, New York.
