James Babbs
Borrowed Blues
alone on sunday morning and
I’m reading some of Kerouac’s blues
from a hardcover I bought online
getting lost among the words
sometimes
Kerouac’s words grow like weeds
all tangled up together and
it’s not always easy getting through
sunday morning and
I’m full of pancakes
and thoughts of death
and the sun struggles to push
its way out of the clouds
manages just a tiny sliver of light
before getting swallowed up again
and when I gaze into my coffee
before taking another sip
I see a little black hole
and it’s looking back at me
